What you need to know before getting a back piercing

Body modification enthusiasts are always searching for new and
unique piercings – it’s part of the fun of getting pierced. Surface
piercings – a piercing that has an entrance and exit on the same
flat surface – are one way to come up with new piercing locations.
Back piercing is one type of surface piercing.
Back piercings are fairly rare because surface piercings require
a large amount of care. Your skin’s first reaction is probably going
to be to reject the jewelry, or to start pushing it out, which will
lead to scarring. This isn’t to say that you can’t get a piercing on
your back, however.
A pierced back, if done properly, can sustain multiple piercings
in different designs, like a corset piercing. A corset piercing is
two columns of rings on the back which can be threaded with ribbon
to look like corset laces.
If you are considering getting a pierced back, make sure you
engage in a pre-piercing consultation. Talk to your piercing artist
about what he or she uses for such piercings. If the answer is not
“surface bars,” which are specially designed to put the least amount
of stress on the area to make healing easier, try another studio.
Ask for pictures, ask for stories, and if you can’t find an
experienced artist, ask for recommendations.
A pierced back is a dramatic statement about who you are and your
devotion to body modification. Taking the time to hire a
knowledgeable, experienced professional will help you obtain the
best, most attractive piercing on your back that’s possible.
