Body piercing keeps growing in popularity

Body piercing has become increasingly popular with today’s young
adults. Young people in our society are encouraged to express
themselves from an early age. For a lot of them, as they get older,
body piercings become a mode of self expression just like words and
music. BME is a
whole internet community of people who enjoy piercing.
Piercing the body is not just an American phenomenon. Young
people from China to England to Australia are part of the piercing
boom. Back in 1998, a survey in Australia estimated one in five
women in Australia have some kind of piercing. Several years ago, a
survey in America estimated that 15% of people between 18 and 24
have been pierced or had a tattoo.
Piercing and body jewelry specialty shops are cropping up in more
and more towns to fill the piercing needs of both legal-aged youth
and adults. People can’t choose their noses or belly buttons but
they can choose to pierce them. It’s a way to personalize the body a
person is born with, to make it one’s own.
A lot of people get pierced to go against the norm. The
popularity of piercing does not change this desire – it leads to
piercing professionals and body modification enthusiasts to try new
piercings. Back and neck piercings, anatomically-specific genital
piercings that require a certain amount of skin, and industrial
piercing are all ways to keep ahead of the mainstream.
Piercings on the body are a part of the art of self expression.
While more and more people turn to this form of expression, piercing
will keep evolving for enthusiasts.
