Belly jewelry with medieval flair?

The only thing that’s actually medieval about belly armor is the
name, but that doesn’t make this unusual style of belly jewelry any
less popular. While most styles of belly jewelry are made to
accentuate or show off the belly button, either highlighting it or
framing it, many styles of belly armor actually cover the navel up
partially or completely.
Belly armor comes in two basic styles, both based on the classic
curved barbell with a larger, curved plate called the “armor” that
is held in place with the balls on the barbell. A belly armor shield
is a slightly curved oblong that hangs over the navel and hangs from
the upper ball of the belly button ring. The shield on this type of
belly jewelry swings free, but is usually solid and broad and long
enough to cover the entire navel like a shield, as its name implies.
Many of these are either engraved or crusted with gemstones
The other common style looks more like actual armor. This belly
jewelry is a curved oblong or oval that is usually sterling silver
or surgical steel and ornately carved or made in a twisted,
elaborate knotted pattern (think of the Celtic knots you often see
in tattoos) that is held in place both top and bottom by the balls
of the curved barbell. The “armor” is placed over the curved barbell
and the balls are screwed into place, holding the armor tightly in
place over the navel.
Whether you want something that really has that medieval look or
are simply looking for something a bit different than your usual
belly jewelry, belly armor is actually very up-to-the-minute.
