Tattoos and body piercing prices vary
Tattoos and body piercing should always be done by professionals
who are experienced and have been properly trained, but some people
hesitate to do this because of the cost involved. Some people also
fear that they may be paying too much and not know where to turn to
get information on accurate prices for tattoos and body piercing.
For the most part, it is harder to get pricing for tattoos than
body piercing, because tattoos are much less “cut and dried.” Prices
vary based on size, location on the body, number of colors, type of
ink, complexity of the design and a host of other factors.
Most tattoo parlors will not give you a quote over the phone.
However, for smaller, simpler tattoos many will give you a flat
price once you’ve selected it in the store. For more complex
designs, an hourly rate is usually charged. Expect to pay anywhere
from $85 to $120 an hour for a good tattoo artist.
Tattoos and body piercing parlors that won’t quote for tattooing
will almost always quote for piercing at a standard rate because the
procedure is always the same. The only pricing variations are
because the overhead for those doing tattoos and body piercing on
the West Coast is obviously higher than it is for someone doing it
in, say, Minnetonka, Minnesota.
A good starting reference however is:
- Navel $40-$50
- Earlobe $20-$25 each
- Tongue $45-$55
- Labret $50-$60
- Eyebrow $45-$50
- Nipple $45-$55
- Nostril $30-$50
- Genital $75-$100
Ask about discount pricing on piercings such as nipples if you
get both done at the same time. Some places that do tattoos and body
piercing will offer the second of two at a reduced cost if you do
both at the same time because you are saving them time by not
scheduling a repeat appointment.
Finally, shop around. Price is always a consideration, but
cleanliness, your rapport with the piercer or tattoo artist and
professionalism are just as important as the price list for tattoos
and body piercing.
