Lip rings show off your personal style

November 26, 2004
By:  Bob Whitehead

A lip piercing is always out there for the world to see. When choosing lip rings, you want pieces of jewelry that will say something about you. Lip rings can really reflect part of your personality, which means there are a lot of different styles available.

One important thing to remember when buying lip rings is the type of metal the jewelry is made out of. Surgical grade stainless steel is the best option because an allergic reaction is least likely to occur with this type of metal. Gold, niobium, and titanium are acceptable as well.

A popular choice in lip rings is the captive bead ring. The ring may be a simple circle, or for something different, try the hexagonal or d-shaped captive bead ring. The bead may have a fun charm hanging from it for a more unique look. You can find the captive bead ring in a lot of color choices or bead types.

Circular barbells are c-shaped, with balls on each end. It’s an interesting look and a bit less overt than the captive bead ring because the jewelry isn’t encircling the whole pierced area. Like captive bead rings, you can customize them with your favorite color, ball type, and gauge. Claw and curved spike labrets can also be worn in the lip piercing for a more dramatic and fearsome look.

One really interesting and less common look for a lip piercing are “Lippy Loops” (as referred to by SteelNavel.com). These lip rings have one small ball on the end and curve around the lip into a spike at the other end. It’s a more unique and unexpected look.

Be fun and be safe in choosing your lip rings. There’s a lot of great jewelry out there to capture the look you’re going for.
