Getting a navel ring for the right reasons

Christina Aquilera recently announced that she will be getting
rid of nearly all her piercing, including her navel ring,
illustrating a point that everyone should consider before getting a
navel ring. Are you going to want your navel jewelry for the long
haul?
Like many people, the pop star admitted that she got her navel
ring because she was “feeling down” to perk herself up and would get
a new piercing anytime she hit a rough patch. This attitude of body
piercing as a form of superficial therapy is rather like when women
of the previous generation would go on a shopping spree whenever
they felt bad. It’s not the right reason to get a navel ring or any
other body modification. Impulse shopping purchases can be returned.
Healing a navel ring piercing is a longer process.
If you want to get a navel ring, don’t do it on impulse; keep in
mind that this is a six month commitment to daily, careful care and
is basically a permanent alteration of your body. If this is
something you want to do that will enhance your self-esteem
long-term, that’s wonderful! But if it’s a quick “I broke up with my
boyfriend last night” fix, stop and wait a few weeks.
A navel ring is a beautiful, attractive piece of body jewelry,
but get one for all the right reasons.
