If your teenager has asked you about getting any kind of a
piercing, from a cartilage piercing to a septum piercing, the most
important thing you’ll need to make a decision is accurate piercing
information. Where do you go to get the right piercing information
so that both of you can make an informed decision about whether your
son or daughter is ready for the responsibility of a body
modification?
First, visit a few of the websites that have piercing information
that is non-threatening but accurate so that he has a real idea of
what will be involved with the procedure, the cost and the aftercare
and possible complications. A few that are good are
www.safepiercing.org (Association of Professional Piercers) and
www.theparentreport.com, where an article with piercing information
also has a long list of comments from actual teens who have been
pierced provides real insight into the realities of infection,
migration and successful piercings as well.
Talk to your family doctor as well, who should be able to provide
you with piercing information or direct you to additional links that
will have information on teens and piercing. Finally, take the time
to talk with both teens and their parents you know who have been
through the experience. The best source of reliable piercing
information is often first-hand.
