Do I have to know my waist size to order a belly chain?

September 09, 2004

If you’ve been thinking about getting a belly chain to wear the next time you’re out in a bikini or a waistline-revealing top and low riders, maybe you’ve wondered about sizing. Are they one-size-fits-all? Do you have to order a size like with pants or shirts, or is it like a bracelet, you just slip it on and hope it works?

It really depends on the kind of belly chain you order. Not all come in sizes, and not all sizes are consistent.

There are generally three different sizing standards for a belly chain:

  • Completely adjustable. This style usually wraps around the waist one-and-a-half to two times and can be adjusted by where along the length you fasten the small hooks at either end. You can adjust most belly chains like this from 20” to 40.”
  • Standard or Large. A standard will generally fit up to about a 34,” and the large fits up to around a 40” waist.
  • S-M-L. If a belly chain comes in small, medium and large sizes, there will be less play in how it fits, but will have a more custom look to it. Generally it will hang more smoothly and there is less chance of having to deal with a long length of loose, extra chain that you’re not sure where to tuck. In general, sizing goes:
    • Small: up to 32”
    • Medium: 28” to 36”
    • Large: 32” to 40”

For any belly chain, these are just guidelines. Remember when ordering that you should always add a few inches to your waist measurement for comfort and “dangle,” the amount you want the belly chain to gently drape below your natural waistline. This should be around 2” to 6,” depending on your size and preference.
