Frenum piercing requires specific jewelry

A frenum piercing is obviously in a very sensitive area of the
body, and one that can become easily damaged if a piercing doesn’t
heal properly or if the wrong kind of jewelry is used. Because a
frenum piercing is through the skin at the underside of the penis at
the base of the glans, it is going through extremely delicate, loose
tissue.
Usually, a 12 to 10 gauge captive bead ring or a 12 to 10 gauge
barbell will be used for the initial jewelry for a frenum piercing.
These are chosen for several reasons. First, these gauges are not
too thin, so they are less likely to migrate or be rejected through
the skin. You don’t want a smaller gauge because it can cut through
the delicate skin of this area. A thicker gauge can cause stretching
or pulling that will increase pain and prolong healing.
Finally, the jewelry should always be made of either 18K gold,
titanium or surgical grade steel. These are materials that are
biocompatible with almost all skin types and are the least likely to
cause an infection.
Because a frenum piercing is in an area of the body that you,
quite rightly, want to be especially careful with, always follow
your piercer’s suggestions and go with the appropriate, high-quality
jewelry recommended to aid in healing.
