Female genital piercing offers surprising jewelry variety

September 03, 2004
By:  Lori Wilkerson

Many women think that female genital piercing is simply that – one thing, and that’s it. But there are actually several different types of female genital piercing available, and each one is different and unique. In fact, you can have several different types and wear a wide range of jewelry types with them.

The first thing that comes to mind when you hear the phrase female genital piercing may be clitoris, but there is also clitoral hood piercing and inner and outer labia piercing, and each type means that you can wear types of jewelry ranging from captive bead rings to barbells depending upon the look and effect you are hoping for. Because many women also tend to move on to multiple piercings after the first female genital piercing, they enjoy displaying a wide range of complimentary styles.

The more delicate, sensitive areas may require jewelry that is a larger gauge in order to prevent tearing of fragile tissue, but other areas can take some rougher treatment and can hold up with a smaller gauge. For female genital piercing you can use captive bead rings in sizes ranging anywhere from 16 up to a 4 gauge, and barbells ranging anywhere from 16 gauge to 8 gauge. And finally, even the barbells offer variety, since you can go with a straight or a curved barbell.

The choice of materials is limited only by quality – go with materials that will hold up the body fluids and will not cause allergic reactions. If you do this, you can be certain you will have a safe female genital piercing and still be able to express yourself with a wide range of jewelry options.
