Nose ring and a head cold? No problem!

It’s one of those embarrassing questions you hate to ask anyone
when you’re thinking about getting a nose ring, but it’s one
everyone thinks about. What do you do if you get a cold or your
allergies flare up and you have a nose ring in?
The good news is that there really isn’t a problem. Whether you
have nostril screws or are wearing a septum nose ring, having a
stuffed up nose won’t create problems you can’t work around. With
nose studs the only difference is where to place your finger on the
outside of your nose when you blow your nose. You may have to adjust
slightly to avoid the stud so that you don’t put pressure on it, but
other than that you won’t feel any different.
With most septum rings, blowing your nose will merely mean
reaching under the nose ring with your tissues or swinging the nose
ring up slightly so that it is out of your way. Septum piercings are
usually quite far forward in the nose and toward the front where
they aren’t really in the way.
In the evening if you find that you do have some congestion that
you need to get rid of or you need to clean around your nose ring on
the inside of the nose piercing, simply do this gently with cotton
swabs. If you get a cold while your nose ring is still healing, be
sure to clean the piercing twice a day and use regular salt soaks to
prevent infection. Other than that, you should simply treat your
nose ring like any other accessory.
