Temporary tattoos are safe for most types of skin

Tattoo Gallery & Pictures

Temporary tattoos are a great way to decorate your skin for the beach, the club or any special occasion without worrying about irritation because the ingredients are safe and gentle. Because temporary tattoos are made to be removable, the dyes and pigments in them are the same ingredients used in FDA-approved cosmetics.

You can be assured the ingredients are safe and approved by checking the package. The list of ingredients must be somewhere on the packaging, in order from the most prominent ingredient to the least prominent.

Temporary tattoos can be removed with baby oil or rubbing alcohol, and usually wear off in about a week.

If you are looking for something in a monochromatic color, you can also try henna, which is a kind of natural skin dye. This is usually a reddish brown color paste that is painted on the skin and then left for several hours or overnight, then washed off, leaving a deep red-brown pattern. This type of temporary tattoo lasts up to three weeks and gradually fades over time, but cannot be washed off as it actually dyes the top layer of skin.

Because the FDA so carefully monitors the ingredients in all inks and dyes used in temporary tattoos, you can rest assured that they are safe to use on even sensitive skin. If you are able to wear make-up, you shouldn’t have any problem wearing temporary tattoos, so if you’d like to try some fake tattoos but weren’t sure if your skin could take it – there’s probably nothing to worry about. Tattoo on!
