Ear piercings offer a wide range of options

Ear piercings offer so many ways to express your individual
tastes and sense of style these days that move beyond those bland
little hoops or dangles that almost everyone wears. Simple lobe ear
piercings are practically the uniform of the well-dressed suburban
woman these days, and even most young men have ear piercings.
But there are other ear piercings that are a bit more unusual if
you want to take the next step. These include moving on to a higher
gauge so that you can wear thicker ear jewelry such as captive bead
rings and getting cartilage piercings.
Captive bead rings (or captive ball rings) come in gauges that
require stretching of the piercing to accommodate the thicker bent
ring. Another popular choice is to stretch ear piercings in order to
insert plugs or eyelets. Plugs are solid tubes, eyelets hollow ones,
that go into a larger hole in the ear lobe. These come in so many
colors and materials they boggle the mind. Metals, woods, acrylics
and polymers can be found in bright colors, muted shades, solids and
patterns. Many plugs have beautiful artwork on the ends.
Cartilage ear piercings are placed on areas of the ear other than
the lobes where the flesh overlays the rubbery cartilage that gives
form to the ear. These types of piercings are more difficult to do,
but offer more options and are often seen with captive bead rings or
barbells.
Moving beyond standard ear piercings opens up a whole new world
of body jewelry possibilities that you will enjoy.
