Nipple piercing is one of those choices that
can sometimes take us a long time to come to a decision on because
it’s so personal and we have to expose ourselves to someone we
really don’t know in order to have it done. And we worry about what
will happen if they don’t do a good job. What if we end up with
crooked piercings or something? But with the wide range of great
looking nipple rings and nipple shields out there these days, nipple
piercing just seems like such a great idea! So what should we
expect if we decide to get it done?
First, realize that a professional piercer has
done hundreds of piercings, and nipple piercing is one of the most
common procedures asked for, so he or she will be very experienced.
He’s seen plenty of breasts and is not looking at you sexually, so
when he does your nipple piercing, he’s focusing on doing the
piercing properly and concentrating on your comfort and safety.
To make sure the nipple piercing is straight,
he will mark either side of the nipple with ink to indicate an entry
and exit point. After swabbing the area with a sterile solution,
he’ll clamp the nipple to stretch the skin taut and push the
piercing needle through. This is usually a quick procedure that
will sting and feel like a tugging on the flesh, but it isn’t
terribly painful.
The barbells or rings are then inserted. Your
piercer will give you instructions on aftercare and provide you with
cleaning solution, antibiotic cream to prevent infection and advise
you on the importance of sea salt soaks to keep the area clean.
Nipple piercing discomfort usually is more in the healing phase than
the procedure itself, since it does take a few weeks for the area to
heal, but if you listen to your piercer and follow the instructions
given to you, the discomfort can be minimized.
Don’t let fear of the procedure stop you from
getting a nipple piercing, but do your homework and make sure you
have an experienced, professional piercer for optimal comfort and
appearance.
