Discover the ins and outs of permanent makeup

Most women who wear makeup have probably thought at some point how much more convenient it would be if their eyeliner stayed smooth, even, and never ran and if their lipstick was always evenly colored and never left traces on glasses. But some women experience more than just irritation -- something prevents them from satisfactorily wearing makeup. These women sometimes turn to permanent makeup.

What is this type of makeup?

This is not tattooing, though the use of needles and pigment may initially make you draw a comparison between the two. The process is also known as micro-pigment implementation, which is an accurate, though very technical, description of what actually happens.

A professional in the implementation process uses a very small needle to inject natural pigmentation under the skin. The colors last several years at least and give the illusion that you are wearing make up when you're not actually wearing any. You can ask for a local anesthetic during application.

Who would use this?

Without knowing too much about this process, micro-pigment implementation may seem like a very vain procedure that only someone who is too obsessed with how she looks would elect to get done. However, there are medical reasons involved in choosing to undergo micro-pigment implementation.

Women with allergies to cosmetics, vision problems, arthritis, or hair loss in the eyebrow region are all candidates for the procedure. Someone who is well-groomed is going to have an easier time getting ahead in life, and if makeup wearing is impossible, how do you feel and look your best in work or social environments?

It is also true that the process appeals to people who wear makeup often and are sick of reapplying or who simply don't have the time to put makeup on every morning. Some women might see the procedure as drastic, while others see it as freedom from morning routine.

Thinking about costs

Micro-pigment implementation costs hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars to get done. It's an investment in your appearance, and it's certainly not for everyone. But women who spend lots of money on an item such as lipstick may actually save money in the long run. And for a woman who can't wear makeup and merely wants to look her best, like many women out there do, there isn't a price tag one can put on the self-esteem that comes from looking good.
