On a budget? Try do-it-yourself punk clothes

You don’t have to have a big fashion budget when it comes to punk
clothes. There are few other styles that are so accommodating to the
do-it-yourself look. Punk thought, after all, is about fighting
established norms and the status quo. DIY punk fashion is a great
way to do this.
All you have to do is make a run to your nearest thrift store or
even through your parents’ closet. Old t-shirts with interesting
slogans on them and collared work shirts are always a good choice.
You can use scissors or a seam ripper to take out the hems and give
the shirts a more weathered look. Recycling clothing is a way to
fight corporate control for some people.
If you’ve found a good pair of pants for a punk outfit but they
have a hole or rip in them, have no fear! Close the rip or tear with
a few safety pins. Safety pins are an essential accessory to your
punk look.
Other accessories are now easier to purchase. Websites like
Hot Topic and
Body Punks sell these accessories. You’ll find a wide selection of
studded leather and non-leather belts, hair dyes, chain wallets, and
messenger bags, in addition to clothing. Body piercing is a part of
punk culture’s way of going against norms. These sites also sell
body jewelry so you can incorporate your punk style into you clothes
and piercings.
DIY punk is a great way to go on a budget, but there are lots of
accessories and ready-made clothing available for purchase too.
