The three styles of nostril studs to use as nose piercing jewelry

January 27, 2005
By:  Bob Whitehead

Nose piercing jewelry may all look the same from the outside – just a small stud or shape lying on the side of the nostril. But on the inside, nose jewelry for the nostril differs. There are three distinct styles of nose jewelry for you to select from. Make your selection on the basis of what feels right for you.

Nose piercings are located on a small surface area, thus the jewelry tends to be smaller and more delicate. Also, nostril size varies from person to person, so what might be comfortable for one might feel uncomfortable to another.

Nose screws come already bent so you can simply screw the jewelry into your piercing. The hook rests against the interior of your nostril. As long as you put it in at a suitable angle, the hook inside your nose won’t be obvious.

A fishtail is similar to a nose screw, except it comes long and straight. Using a tool made for such applications, you can bend fishtail jewelry into the angle or hook that is most comfortable to you. If you have trouble with nose screws but like the idea of a bend in the jewelry for keeping it in your nose, this is a good choice.

The third style is a nose bone, also known as a nose stud. Like a fishtail, the body of the jewelry is straight. But unlike that style, the jewelry remains that way and does not require any bending. There is a small bulb, virtually invisible, on the end that keeps the jewelry in place.

If you are looking for nose jewelry, look no further than Painful Pleasures. They have a wide variety of each style available in rhinestone, 14k gold, and fun shapes like hearts and stars.
