Jewelry, makeup and hairstyles as a part of gothic fashion

Gothic fashion isn’t just about black clothes. Certainly the
darker clothing is part of this fashion statement, but so much more
is involved, including gothic jewelry, makeup and hairstyles. There
are a lot of elements that go into creating a unique gothic style.
Part of gothic style comes from makeup. Notable artists like
Robert Smith from the Cure have popularized the pale face. Wearing
all-white makeup is difficult to do because you have to cover all
exposed areas like your neck and chest to get a good look, so
foundations in lighter shades can help you achieve paler tones.
Adding dark lipstick and eye makeup completes the job. This goes for
men as well as women, as part of gothic style deals in androgyny.
Hair dye is another component to achieving a good gothic look.
While black hair is always popular among those in the gothic scene,
other colors can be included. Very pale blond hair can be associated
with this style, though if you have dark hair, you’ll want to get
this professionally done. Reds and purples are good choices as well.
If your hair is naturally dark, you may have to lighten it to get
these colors to really come through.
Body piercing and jewelry is another piece of creating the gothic
style. Symbols like the ankh and pentacle, as well as spiders and
bats, can be found on pendants, earrings, and even belly button
rings. Nipple, tongue, and nose piercings are fairly popular. It’s
all a part of using the entire body to create a gothic style.
