Looking for an interesting surface piercing? Try wrist piercing

January 19, 2005
By:  Bob Whitehead

Your body is full of small, flat areas that can be pierced with the jewelry entering and exit on the same surface. These piercings are called surface piercings, and there are many ways to get one. Wrist piercing, for example, is one type of surface piercing that can dress up your body.

Wrist piercings are a unique way to celebrate your devotion to body modification. They mean different things to different people. For one person, it’s simply a piercing that turns heads and looks interesting. For another person, it could commemorate or reflect a past history of cutting as the finding of a new way to mark skin.

The danger with surface piercings, however, is that your skin’s first reaction to any foreign material is to push it out. Thus, it’s likely that your body will reject the jewelry used to pierce your wrist.

To lessen your chance of rejection, you have to take good care of your pierced wrist. Have it pierced with a surface barbell, which can be manipulated to fit the exact curves of your wrist. Wear clothing with short sleeves in order to keep the fabric from irritating it. Your hands are involved in so much of what you do during the day, and that movement is going to affect your wrist and its healing.

For many people, surface piercings like those done to the wrist are a temporary way to enjoy body modification. Even if you take excellent care of it, be aware there’s still a chance that your body will reject it.
