What to expect from belly button piercings

Belly button piercings are extremely popular among young women.
Navel rings are the perfect compliment to today’s low-rise pants and
midriff baring tops. However, a longer shirt or a different pair of
pants can quickly cover up the belly button piercing for work or
family functions.
When getting any kind of piercing, it’s important to know to want
to expect. Everyone’s features are different, and navels are no
exception. The curve, angle, and size of your navel determine how
you’re pierced and if your belly button can accommodate a piercing
at all. Piercers are instructed in piercing navels of all sizes, so
a consultation with a licensed professional should assuage any
concerns.
Wear loose, comfortable clothing that is unlikely to rub against
your piercing or catch on your new belly ring. Take care to listen
to the piercing professional when selecting your piercing jewelry.
Surgical grade stainless steel, titanium, and niobium are metals
that are least likely to foster an allergic reaction. Typically,
piercing professionals use 14 gauge jewelry for navel piercings.
It’s widely recommended that you get your navel pierced when you
aren’t expecting any strenuous activity. The belly button area will
be sensitive for a little while. Also, while it’s tempting to get
pierced in the summer when bellies are often on full view, going
swimming with a recent navel piercing is definitely a “don’t.”
Always follow cleaning instructions to keep your belly
infection-free.
Be careful – navel piercings take time to heal!
SteelNavel.com
lists the minimum healing time window as four to eight months. It
could take up to a year before your belly piercing is fully healed.
If you have any questions at all when changing your navel jewelry,
talk to your piercer. Even if it turns it to be a non-issue, don’t
feel silly. It’s part of the job of a piercing professional.
When it’s time to dress up your midriff with new jewelry, you’ll
find a lot of pretty, fun, and sexy jewelry to reflect your
personality. Just be sure to choose appropriate metals, and enjoy
your navel piercing!
