Vertical hood piercings and sexual benefits

January 19, 2005
By:  Bob Whitehead

For many people, one motivating factor in getting a genital piercing is the benefit of added sexual pleasure. After all, getting pierced in such a sensitive area can be painful and all the sweat glands in that body region make healing a little more difficult—it only makes sense to want to benefit from it. Vertical hood piercings are one example of piercings done to the female genitalia that enhance sexual pleasure.

A study done at the University of South Alabama examined the sexual benefits of a vertical hood piercing to a woman. In addition to sexual stimulation, the study found that of the 33 participants, 39% noticed an increase in their sexual desire and 43% reported an increase in their level of arousal.

While this is a small sample size and there was not an actual increase in reported achieved orgasms, there is a good chance that piercing the clitoral hood will provide sexual benefits to the wearer.

There are different reasons for this, of course. Because the piercing is hidden from view, having a sexy secret could make a woman feel more aroused before a sexual encounter. The friction of the jewelry between the clitoris and clitoral hood is likely to impact a woman’s level of sexual desire because she’s receiving more stimulation.

This piercing directly stimulates the clitoris without being difficult to perform or heal. Latex condoms, water-based lubricants, and avoiding the use of Nonoxynol-9 will keep your piercing from being irritated when you are healed enough for intercourse.
