Lip piercings spark comfort debate

Because lip piercings are so popular these days, the question of
the most comfortable style of labrets is becoming a common topic of
conversation in the piercing community. There are proponents for
each of the most common labrets, and it is really a matter of
personal preference after you’ve tried each for yourself. Because no
two lip piercings are the same, no one kind of labret jewelry will
work for everyone.
The most common style of jewelry worn in lip piercings is the
standard barbell labret, which has a flat back that attaches to the
bar on the inside of the lip next to the gum. This is usually a
small, metal disk that simply screws on and should lie relatively
flush to the gums along the inside of the mouth.
Some people prefer the less common fishtail lip piercings,
however, complaining that the metal disks rub too much to be
comfortable. The fishtail ends of lip labrets work on the same
principal as nostril screws – you twist them into place, and the
thin, bent post or wire should lie perpendicular to the piercing
along the gum line. These are inserted through the front of lip
piercings and twisted in so that they don’t need an end piece placed
on them from the inside. For those preferring a fishtail, they swear
by the comfort, while others say they hate the feel of the fishtail
end moving about, rubbing the gums.
For most people with lip piercings, the debate is settled by
trying both the barbell labret and the fishtail and making up their
own minds based on what feels best for them.
