Hood piercing requires careful thought, right jewelry

Often women will go into a piercing studio and say, “I want a
clitoral piercing, “ having no idea that what they really want is a
hood piercing. This is a much more common piercing that can be done
on almost any woman and is can done either vertically or
horizontally. A hood piercing is chosen for aesthetic reasons as
well as for stimulation, and the type of jewelry that is worn is
chosen partly for how it looks and partly based on comfort, which is
very important in this sensitive area of the body.
Whether vertical or horizontal, the hood piercing goes through
the fold of flesh that is over the clitoris. The jewelry will need
to be high quality and well made to ensure that it doesn’t damage
the delicate tissue. No snags, sharp edges or roughness anywhere on
the jewelry should be present or the rings could catch on
underclothing or hair and cause a tear in the skin. Never use cheap
metals, which often have a high content of impurities, or gold,
which tends to cause allergic reactions particularly in delicate
areas of the body. Stick with surgical steel, niobium or some other
high quality metal recommended by your piercer for your hood
piercing.
Captive bead rings are by far the most appropriate jewelry for a
hood piercing, and you should stick with a gauge between 14 and 10.
You might also be comfortable with a curved barbell, as long as the
ends are in a style that isn’t uncomfortable for sitting and won’t
snag easily.
