Ears are still the most popular piercing, but navels are closing in

With piercing various body parts becoming more popular every
year, there’s a shift in the balance of what types are most popular.
For years, ear piercing was so far in the lead that all other kinds
weren’t even close. Then, nostril rings and lip labrets became more
popular and began to catch up. For a few decades, these facial
piercings were running an ever closer second place, especially
during the eighties, when so many celebrities began sporting nose
rings and lip rings.
Then, in the 1990’s, the belly button ring became the accessory
every woman wanted. While facial piercing continued to be popular
with a certain section of the public, navel piercing gained a huge
following with young people who would never have gotten a piercing
other than their ear lobes before.
Navel rings began showing up on everyone from high school
cheerleaders to soccer moms and corporate managers, and piercing
studios realized that a bona fide craze had been born. Today, the
most requested piercing in nine out of ten studios aside from ears
is the belly button. Most piercers agree that this won’t be changing
any time soon. The choices of body jewelry out there for the navel
are great, and navel jewelry can be covered when the wearer wants to
be discreet. It’s the perfect balance of beauty and subtlety, and it
may just catch up with ear piercing yet!
